Beyond Control -- Big Skies, quiet nights, no trouble.

June 5, 2018

BEYOND CONTROL

Victoria Bradford and her four-year old daughter are on the run from Tory’s abusive ex-fiancé.   Seventy miles north of Dallas, the Iron River Ranch is pretty much nowhere, exactly what Josh Cain wanted when he came back from Afghanistan.  Big skies, quiet nights, no trouble.

When Tory shows up with her adorable little girl, Josh realizes he is in for trouble of the most personal kind. But Josh has seen trouble before, and he doesn't scare easy. Not when “accidents” start happening around the ranch. Not when Tory’s best friend is abducted.  Not even when he realizes their troubles are only the tip of the iceberg.

---------------

Phoenix, Arizona

Dear God, he was supposed to be gone!  The sound of the front door opening and closing, familiar heavy footfalls in the entry sent shock waves through her body.  It was almost midnight.  Damon should have been in Los Angeles attending a three-day business conference with his father.

The Texas Mystique by Kat Martin

May 23, 2018

The Texas Mystique

Since my new book, BEYOND CONTROL--Josh Cain and Victoria Bradford’s story--is set in Texas, I thought it might be fun to talk about one of my favorite places.

There is something special about Texas.  My husband and I lived in Houston for a couple of months one summer and it was a wonderful experience, though at times it was sort of good news and bad.  The people in Texas are extremely friendly, and they always seem to be in a good mood.

We gorged ourselves on gourmet meals in some of the country’s finest restaurants, but also ate a ton of delicious Tex Mex, Asian, Indian flatbread, and just about everything else.  We visited art galleries, the beach, and some of the beautiful ranches in the area.

That was the good news.  The bad news was Houston in August is HOT.  It’s also muggy and sticky and you just can’t wait for October to arrive.

Two years ago, we traveled to Lubbock for a Western Writers of America conference.  I was reluctant to go in the summer, but it turned out to be a really great trip--hot but dry.  We visited some great museums and...

Dear Readers,

This is a short message to let you know about my latest novel, a hard-boiled PI mystery set in the islands:

Hawaiian Punch by Douglas Corleone and Rick Chesler

When newly licensed Honolulu private eye Nate Savidge hits the streets to track down the killer of a local college student, he soon discovers there's a dark side to paradise.

With the help of criminal lawyer Jake Harper, Nate takes on a city teeming with violence and corruption to keep an innocent seventeen-year-old from a life behind bars. Another prayer needed for friends...

March 20, 2018

I just learned that I lost my friend and nursing colleague Kathy Zunino. I met Kathy in 1989, when we were fairly young R.N.'s. Kathy was a N.P. but not practicing as one. My specialty was always Pediatrics so when we met up at Kaiser, we hit it off. Her husband Paul, an avid reader, has been a reviewer for AdC for more than a decade. He likes the sci-fi, scary stuff. But he has also been caretaker supreme for his wife, as if she trained him as an R.N. herself. My love to her three children. Rest in peace, Kathy Z., you were a good friend.
