ARMY:

Over hill, over dale
We have hit the dusty trail,
And the Caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter marching and right about,
And those Caissons go rolling along.

For it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
count out your numbers loud and strong,
And where e'er you go,
You will always know
That the Army go rolling along.

NAVY:

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
All around the world, it's U.S. Navy, forever, and strong.

AIR FORCE:

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun!
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

MARINES:

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli!
We fight...

Kat Martin's latest re-release Nothing But Velvet

It's the end of October already!

Hard to believe it's nearing the end of October!  Some of you may have noticed the numerous books my previous publishers have been re-issuing.  It's been fun to see my old Historical Romances back on the shelves with fabulous new covers.

This month one of my favorites, NOTHING BUT VELVET, is being re-released.  The book is set in the mid-1700s, one of only two I've ever written in that period.

NOTHING BUT VELVET is the story of Velvet Moran and Jason Sinclair.  To save her family from financial ruin, Velvet must marry the grim and cruel Duke of Carlyle.  But on the way to the Duke's estate, she is captured by the notorious highwayman, One-eyed Jack Kincaid.

Innocent of the murders he's been accused of, disguised as the Jack Kincaid, Jason Sinclair is determined to clear his name and claim the dukedom his brother has stolen.  Kidnapping the duke's bride seems the answer to his dilemma.

But as his feelings for Velvet grow and the peril increases, Jason begins to realize that his feelings for Velvet pose a terrible danger to them both.

The book is available in both print and E-book on...

A Place Called Harmony

Welcome Jodi Thomas.

Thank you for stopping by to tell us about your latest release A Place Called Harmony.

jodithomas.jpg (175×237)

I’m excited about the release of A PLACE CALLED HARMONY. The story has been in the back of my mind since I started writing the Harmony series.  Often I thought about what how my people in the present were affected by the past.  To have a town where people care about each other and understand one another, the roots needed to run deep.  I felt like I knew the three men who settled the town long before I wrote their story.

When Truman, Matheson and McAllen’s stories began to dance in my mind, I found myself staying up later every night to write more.  I love the way the three men interacted and the way all three loves storied grew.  I have a feeling that readers will be staying up a little later to read one more chapter.

All three men were prepared for the challenge of building a town but unprepared for the depth of love they found as they build their families.

I loved writing these men and I hope the readers will...

Greetings from Leanne Tyler

BecauseofRebeccablogweb.jpg (150×225)

It’s great to be at the Scratching Post today. I’m Leanne Tyler and I will be attending the Destiny Blaine Workshop and Reader Rally in Kingsport, TN, October 8-12.  I write sweet, yet sometimes sensual southern romances in both historical and contemporary. I will be bringing with me print copies of the following books to the book signing on October 9th:  Because of Rebecca (American historical set in 1858 Jackson, MS) and The Good Luck series (The Good Luck Charm, The Good Luck Spell & The Good Luck Potion) my sweet romantic comedy series set in Fountain City (a suburb of Knoxville).  Look me up if you are going to be at the Country Club Bar and Grill in Bristol and maybe you can wrangle a swag pack from me or my good friend Lexi Witcher (who writes YA Paranormal).

The latest Thriller OUTCAST Ops by Rick Chesler

Rick Chestler's latest novel is out and ready for thriller lovers everywhere.

OUTCAST Ops: The Poseidon Initiative:

During a terrifying break-in at a marine laboratory, a European-North African terror group makes off with a large quantity of deadly nerve agent. Demands are made and large-scale attacks are launched in the United States from coast to coast.

Enter O.U.T.C.A.S.T. (Operational Undertaking To Counteract Active Stateside Threats)--six ex-operatives from six of America’s most powerful organizations. Each has been unceremoniously released by their respective former employer for alleged misdoings that leave their pride wounded but their essential skill-sets untouched. After uniting over their shared bond of dismissal from the nation’s most elite outfits, the disgruntled spooks can now work together like never before to take down threats to their beloved country, a country that branded them as outcasts but needs them now more than ever.

When the President of the United States becomes a target of the terror group while hosting a party on his yacht, OUTCAST is hell-bent on showing America that their way isn't the best way--it's the only way.

News from Susan Lyons

I’m happy that my fourth Caribou Crossing Romance, Stand by Your Man, has now been released. I hope readers are enjoying the story of two imperfectly—or is that perfectly?—matched RCMP officers.

Any moment now I should be getting page proofs for Love Me Tender, which will come out on December 2. I’ve also finished (in draft) Love Somebody Like You and it’s with critiquers right now.

Also, the Brazilian (Portuguese) edition of the first title, Caribou Crossing, is now available, titled Um Amor Perfeito. I hope Brazilian readers enjoy this series. I’ve loved receiving their comments on my Fallon sisters (Wild Ride to Love) books.

As you may be aware, I’ve been publishing mini volumes of sweet short contemporary romances in my Sweet Indulgences series. At the end of 2013, my plan was to publish one volume each month over the course of 2014 and yes, volume 7 is now available. It sure reminds me that the year is more than half over!

In contest news, Home on the Range finaled in the Wisconsin RWA Write Touch, and Dare to be Dirty  received a HOLT Medallion Award of Merit.

And in contest news of another sort,...

Memorial Day

As a daughter of a Pearl Harbor Survivor, Firefighter, and amazing father I was taught from the very beginning to be proud to be American and to appreciate all that those who have served this country--the ones with us who protect us as we sit and enjoy our lives and those who have passed.

Thank you...

The Blue Street Journal's Photo

Memorial Day was started by former slaves on May, 1, 1865 in Charleston, SC to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. They dug up the bodies and worked for 2 weeks to give them a proper burial as gratitude for fighting for their freedom. They then held a parade of 10,000 people led by 2,800 Black children where they marched, sang and celebrated.

Thanks to Abstrakt Goldsmith for this nugget of history that most of us never learned in school.
