We’re curious about your latest release. You have been writing the Against series for a couple of years now. The last book started the story in Alaska with Dylan Brodie. Tell us about that and how you plan to lead it to the next book, Against the Sky.

All of my books are completely stand-alone novels.  Against the Sky is Nick’s story.  Nick’s brother, Dylan, from Against the Wild is happily living with his lady love, Lane Bishop.  He and Nick live about 2.5 hours apart by plane.  Alaska is BIG.  Nick has problems of his own to solve and there isn’t much Dylan can do to help.  Rafe, however, brother number three, oldest and wisest, makes an appearance.   All of them are close and rely on each other for support, even though they...

Ways to Stay Safe During the Holidays and Year Round

We had a very informative meeting and I would like to spread the wonderful ideas and ways to protect ourselves during the holiday and year round.

Thank you to Corp. Pam Hibbs for providing the community with tips on how to keep you and your identity safe this holiday season.

* Don't throw away your ATM receipt. There is enough information on it to jeopardize your identity and accounts.
* Draw attention to yourself at the ATM if you think someone is suspicious.
* Lock your doors after getting back into your car.
* Before you put your ATM card into the scanner, try to wiggle the scanner. If it moves, it may have been compromised. Find a different ATM.
* Don't use ATM machines that have a hand written sign redirecting you to another ATM. And do NOT use the ATM at the other location.
*Shop before dark.
*Coordinate shopping with a friend.
*Do not park in an unlit area
*Do not park by large vehicles with dark tinted windows
*Beware of people claiming they need gas money or money to feed their children. Many times this is a distraction while someone else...

Authors wonder, now what? Facebook Changes its Newsfeed Policies

Let's go straight to the issues. Over promotion has hurt authors. Did we do it to ourselves?

  1. Posts that solely push people to buy a product or install an app
  2. Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context
  3. Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads
https://www.facebook.com/business/news/update-to-facebook-news-feed

Well, really we knew it would happen sooner or later. We took advantage of it while we had the chance. There are still ways to get around it and we will figure it out. My suggestion would be to try and tag team each other. A necessary means to an end for promoting each other.

Alas, the other option is to return to conventional promotions. AdC will be here and trying every avenue to promote you and your books.

In the meantime, keep working with Facebook, manipulating ways to promote yourself and we will be there cheering you on and promoting with you.

Blurb/book description:

All this while, Matilda’s shadow had been growing larger and larger. Suddenly, it lunged out of the ground and swallowed her, like a python does its unsuspecting prey.

Nine year old Matilda ends up with a century old book through a series of strange coincidences. And disappears. Her brother and cousins are forced to suspend their hostilities and pursue her to Sceadu, a land inside the human shadow. Once there, the reluctant visitors find themselves chased by the vicious Hefigans, creatures of Sceadu. However, everything changes with the revelation of an ancient prophecy that foretells the doom of the world they left behind.

With the stakes suddenly raised, the children must now navigate...

Shakedowns cover-ups and big fat lies keep bodies hidden on Mackinac
Island and bike-riding tourist oblivious to it all

Excerpt…

I stepped down from the carriage to the sounds of crickets and other night creatures. I crawled between the wood fence slats hoping that something with wiggling antennae didn’t land on me.

“Bunny?” I called out into the night.

Heart rattling around in my chest, I crept though the bushes. Leaves crunched under foot and I tried to remember to breathe. Maybe Bunny fell asleep on her perch and didn’t hear me calling, or maybe she was just enjoying the moonlit view over the lake. Bunny’s eyes were wide open all right, but they weren’t looking at the view. They weren’t looking at anything. They were cold, vacant, dead.

My legs went to jelly and I crumpled to the ground. I’d lived all my life in Chicago and never came across a dead person. A few bar-fights when the Bulls lost or shoving matches at a Bloomingdale’s sale but that was it. Yet here I was on Mackinac Island in the middle of freaking nowhere sitting next to a corpse named Bunny. Next time I wanted to impress my parents...

ARMY:

Over hill, over dale
We have hit the dusty trail,
And the Caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter marching and right about,
And those Caissons go rolling along.

For it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
count out your numbers loud and strong,
And where e'er you go,
You will always know
That the Army go rolling along.

NAVY:

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
All around the world, it's U.S. Navy, forever, and strong.

AIR FORCE:

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun!
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

MARINES:

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli!
We fight...

Kat Martin's latest re-release Nothing But Velvet

It's the end of October already!

Hard to believe it's nearing the end of October!  Some of you may have noticed the numerous books my previous publishers have been re-issuing.  It's been fun to see my old Historical Romances back on the shelves with fabulous new covers.

This month one of my favorites, NOTHING BUT VELVET, is being re-released.  The book is set in the mid-1700s, one of only two I've ever written in that period.

NOTHING BUT VELVET is the story of Velvet Moran and Jason Sinclair.  To save her family from financial ruin, Velvet must marry the grim and cruel Duke of Carlyle.  But on the way to the Duke's estate, she is captured by the notorious highwayman, One-eyed Jack Kincaid.

Innocent of the murders he's been accused of, disguised as the Jack Kincaid, Jason Sinclair is determined to clear his name and claim the dukedom his brother has stolen.  Kidnapping the duke's bride seems the answer to his dilemma.

But as his feelings for Velvet grow and the peril increases, Jason begins to realize that his feelings for Velvet pose a terrible danger to them both.

The book is available in both print and E-book on...
